Passion Week

Prince wrote “Manic Monday” in 1984 and The Bangles had the number two hit in 1986—a song that laments getting up on Monday—wanting to go back to “Funday Sunday”. It is written in D major at 116 beats per minute—and has a different feel than the previously recorded Mama and Papas, “Monday, Monday”—although, some critics say that this selection was much the better.

It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday

‘Cause that’s my funday
My I don’t have to runday
It’s just another manic Monday

Have to catch an early train
Got to be to work by nine
And if I had an airoplane
I still couldn’t make it on time

How did Jesus feel on this Monday? Here is how his week was shaping up (and He knew it):

Sunday: *Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem

Monday: *Jesus clears the temple

Tuesday: *Jesus’ authority challenged in the temple

* Jesus teaches in stories and confronts Jewish Leaders

*Olivet Discourse (teaches disciples on Mount of Olives)

*Judas agrees to betray Jesus

Wednesday: *No plans per Scripture—probably in Bethany with disciples

Thursday: * Last Supper

* Jesus speaks privately to disciples in the upper room

*Jesus prays and agonizes in Gethsemane

*Jesus is betrayed and arrested

Friday: *Jesus is tried by Jewish AND Roman authorities and betrayed by Peter

*Jesus beaten, flogged, mocked

Saturday:* After the Day of Preparation, the chief Priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate and asked to make tomb secure—afraid the body would be stolen. Pilate agreed to take a guard and seal tomb with a stone.

Sunday: *Resurrection

“I say to everyone: Watch!” Mark 13:37 …Jesus tells disciples to remain watchful for His return.

Just another manic Monday.
