Receiving an email from a young man this past week that included Isaiah 54:17 as part of his sentence, “…no weapon forged against me will prevail…,” had me contemplating this entire chapter of Isaiah.
I went to the commentaries on the passage. Did not get me too far on my thought process. I kept going back to the email.
Walter Brueggemann, Old Testament scholar, declares “Every careful reader of the Bible is struck by how “recurringly odd and unaccommodating” it is to what we are used to and expect.” (Theology of the Old Testament)
Isaiah –you are so unaccommodating. Did this young man have any idea he would provoke me this way?
What weapon do I fear?
I will be unaccommodating, I will use Isaiah to provoke someone today.
